English as a Second Language (ESL) Program

We offer English classes for all levels of non-native English speakers, from beginning to advanced. We know that learning English can open doors for people and we want to help!

Classes provide instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Our classes are small so everyone has a chance to participate. Books are provided for classroom use, so there is no n eed to purchase additional materials. Teachers and tutors use a variety of curricula and techniques, and generally, the focus is on the individual goals of the participant.

Beginning Level Classes

Beginning English focuses on practical language needed to function in daily life. Students will learn to have a conversation with a new friend, learn the names of everyday objects, talk about what is in the classroom and the work space, and who is in their family. They will also learn to interact with their doctor and their children’s teachers. The tutors make sure everyone has a chance to participate in a fun and positive environment.

Conversational English classes are a casual drop-in environment in which a facilitator starts with a topic and encourages everyone to share their input. The class is made up of students who are at various levels in the English learning process, so students learn from each other. This class is a great way to get practice speaking English in a comfortable setting in which students can strengthen the skills they have in reading and speaking the English language. Some students who are enrolled in other ESL classes use the “Conversational English” class as a great supplement to their continued study.

Intermediate Level Classes

Intermediate English gives learners an opportunity to take their skills to a new level by studying verb tenses, adverb and adjective use, and more complex sentence structure. They read and discuss articles in class, and write paragraphs on their own. Students often bring up questions concerning situations they have encountered in daily life to discuss with the class. New words and phrases are learned daily and the goal is for students to become comfortable and gain confidence when speaking English.

Citizenship Prep Class is a small group setting that is geared towards adults who have met the pre-requirements to become a United States citizen. A tutor helps students understand the N-400 application for Naturalization, explain and study questions for the citizenship test and practice reading and writing simple English sentences for the test. Students should have a good command of English before taking this class.
